CBN Gov Emefiele Meets 15 Banks on N200 Note Directive

Mr. Goodwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has met with 15 commercial banks to discuss the implementation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent directives regarding the availability of N200 notes.

Following concerns about the lack of new naira notes in circulation, President Buhari instructed CBN to make old N200 notes accessible as soon as possible.

At a media briefing, Mr. Emefiele assured Nigerians that these efforts would reduce the burden on citizens, and explained that daily meetings are taking place with bankers in order to keep track of the progress made by their currency policy initiatives.

He sympathized with any temporary dissatisfaction but confidently stated that all naira-related issues will eventually be resolved.
