Chelsea have completed the signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion for a record-breaking transfer fee.

The 21-year-old midfielder has signed an eight-year contract with the option to extend for another year, potentially keeping him at the club until 2032.

Although the exact transfer fee has not been disclosed by Chelsea, it is understood to be £115m, making Caicedo the most expensive signing in British football history.

This surpasses the amount Chelsea paid for Enzo Fernandez in the previous January window.

Caicedo was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the summer, but Brighton initially refused to lower their asking price.

Liverpool also made a bid for the player, but Caicedo ultimately chose to join Chelsea.

The Ecuador international expressed his excitement about joining the club and is looking forward to getting started with the team.

Chelsea’s sporting directors praised Caicedo’s skills and believe he will have a significant impact on the team.

With this signing, Chelsea’s spending since Todd Boehly’s takeover has exceeded €1bn (£848m).

Additionally, the club is close to securing the signing of Southampton’s Romeo Lavia for £50m, beating out competition from Liverpool.
