Over the years, Chelsea Football Club’s attempts to sign a successful number 9 striker have been largely unsuccessful.

Recent examples include Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku, neither of whom managed to replicate their earlier success in front of goal at Stamford Bridge.

Current Blues striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is no exception and has scored just once in the Premier League since his arrival last October.

Chelsea have struggled for goals this season, having only found the net 22 times in the league while Napoli – leading Serie A – have averaged over double that with 2.43 goals per game.

One player who could be the answer to their troubles is Victor Osimhen from Napoli; he boasts an impressive 16 goals from 17 games this season and sits atop the league’s scoring charts.

The Nigerian international also has a conversion rate almost double that of Chelsea’s top scorer Kai Havertz and has provided three assists throughout this campaign as well.

With Osimhen averaging more key passes per 90 than Havertz too, it seems his addition would be considerable improvement on current options available to both coach Thomas Potter and club owner Graham Boehly should they decide to part with an expected fee of around €150 million for the priveleged partnership.

Given Chelsea’s lack of success when it comes to finding a reliable number 9 in recent history, they will be hoping Victor Osimhen is up to the task should he make the switch over in what could be a record-breaking transfer between Premier League clubs if it goes through!
