China has denied reports from the Wall Street Journal claiming that it had made a deal to construct an “electronic eavesdropping facility” in Cuba.
The report alleged that the base would be used by Beijing to monitor US military sites in Florida.
Both Havana and the White House have also dismissed the claims. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin stated that he was “not aware” of any such arrangement and accused the US of “meddling in other countries’ internal affairs.”
The Cuban Foreign Minister also rejected the report as “totally mendacious and unfounded information.”
The White House National Security Council spokesman also stated that the report was “not accurate.”
The Chinese spokesman urged US officials to lift the commercial and financial blockade on Cuba, which has been in place since the Cold War.
