On Thursday, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom went to the Benue State High Court with an ex-parte motion.

The motion centered on the Governor’s allegations that PDP and INEC had planned to suspend or disqualify him from running in the forthcoming 2023 senatorial election in the state.

The Governor was seeking a court order restraining them from doing so.

After hearing arguments from Governor Ortom’s counsel, Senior Advocate Sebastian Hon, Justice Ityonyiman granted the motion and ordered PDP and INEC not to expel or suspend the Governor or otherwise punish him or refuse to place his name on their list of candidates until the Motion on Notice for interlocutory injunction is heard.

Furthermore, INEC was also restrained from receiving any communication made by PDP seeking to disqualify Ortom from contesting, nor refusing for whatever reason to place his name on the ballot paper for the Benue North West Senatorial district election slated for February 25th.

The Court fixed February 24th for the hearing of the Motion on Notice.
