In a shocking turn of events, Senator Abdul Ningi has been accused of orchestrating a civilian coup in Nigeria.

During a plenary proceedings held at the national assembly in Abuja, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele denounced Ningi’s allegations of budget padding by his colleagues as an attempt to unseat the incumbent Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Bamidele, who is also the majority leader of the upper chamber, described Ningi’s actions as a “civilian coup,” aimed at inciting the Northern Senators’ Forum against Akpabio, a southern senator who took over from Ahmad Lawan.

Ningi, the chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum, had recently revealed that irregularities were discovered in the 2024 budget after engaging the services of a private auditor.

He accused Akpabio of inserting projects worth N3 trillion in the budget.

However, Bamidele vehemently opposed Ningi’s claims, expressing gratitude to those who dissociated themselves from the Northern Senators’ Forum.

He emphasized that Ningi’s plan had failed and likened it to a failed coup attempt.

“What my big brother, distinguished Senator Abdul Ningi, whom I respect so well, planned to do or set out to do was tantamount to a civilian coup which has failed. And in doing this, he wanted to use the platform of the Northern Senators’ Forum. God bless all those who have dissociated themselves from the Northern Senators’ Forum.”

In the midst of this political turmoil, Senator Ningi announced his resignation as the chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum.
