Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has refuted claims made by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, that he was served with an impeachment notice from the state House of Assembly.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker, Shaibu’s Personal Assistant, Charles Olubayo, stated that no impeachment notice was ever served on the Deputy Governor.
The letter highlighted the inaccuracies and misleading information that arose from the plenary session on March 11, 2024.
It stated that the Speaker directed the impeachment notice to be served on Shaibu through newspaper publications, as the Deputy Governor allegedly refused to acknowledge the earlier impeachment notice sent through the Clerk of the House.
However, the Deputy Governor’s office firmly denied these claims. The letter clarified that Shaibu had been out of Benin since March 3, 2024, and had not returned. The Clerk of the House had not seen the Deputy Governor during this period, making it impossible for any impeachment notice to be served and subsequently refused.
The Deputy Governor’s office called on the Speaker to rectify the impression created in the public and avoid misrepresentation of this important matter.
