Former President Olusegun Obasanjo recently hosted Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, in a private meeting that has drawn national attention – www.naijnaira.com reports.
Tribune Online confirmed the discussion centered on Nigeria’s worsening challenges and possible solutions to put the country back on track.
The meeting was also tied to ongoing consultations across political circles as momentum builds ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi later disclosed that he attended the meeting with Labour Party figures including Dr Yunusa Tanko, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and Segun Adebanjo.
Tanko, who spoke to journalists, described the gathering as “a meeting of like minds” concerned about Nigeria’s future.
He stressed that Peter Obi once worked under Obasanjo’s leadership, making their discussion both timely and necessary.
According to him, the talks extended to voter participation and the need for Nigerians to fully use their voting rights.
On whether Obi has declared interest in the 2027 presidency, Tanko clarified, “That is a public declaration. When the time comes, everybody will be informed accordingly.”
Attempts to get Obasanjo’s side of the story were unsuccessful, as one of his aides explained the meeting was strictly behind closed doors.
