The University of Lagos has completed a special publication celebrating the leadership of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, and the project comes with bold academic proposals — www.naijnaira.com reports.
During a visit to Government House in Yenagoa, UNILAG Consult’s Managing Director, Prof. John Oyefara, revealed that the institution also wants to host a public lecture on governance and establish a Professorial Chair in Political Science in Diri’s honour, according to The Guardian.
The book, titled Leadership Chronicles of Governor Douye Diri, is described as a deep dive into his governance style, reforms, and development efforts across Bayelsa.
“We identified Your Excellency to be a leading star in Nigeria, based on leadership and governance,” Prof. Oyefara said while presenting the project.
Lead Editor Prof. Hope Eghagha explained that the assessment was independent, relying on research and interviews to measure impact in infrastructure, security, and human capacity development.
He noted that Bayelsa has seen marked progress in security and governance, with Diri’s humility and people-centered approach making him a respected national figure.
Governor Diri, visibly moved, said the recognition was unexpected and expressed interest in establishing a leadership institute to prepare future politicians.
He lamented the lack of structured preparation for public office in Nigeria, stressing that untrained leaders often fail.
Diri praised his team for supporting his administration, insisting that whatever success is credited to him is the result of collective effort.
He approved the university’s proposals, saying the initiative would help document history and inspire future leadership.
