The Department of State Security (DSS) has officially ended its presence at the residence of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
After his arrest in Lagos and subsequent transfer to Abuja for interrogation, the DSS had sealed off Emefiele’s home in Ikoyi, Lagos.
However, the DSS has now removed their blockade, indicating the conclusion of their investigation.
It is possible that with this development, Emefiele may be granted bail after spending over six weeks in DSS custody.
Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the investigation and the next steps to be taken by President Bola Tinubu.
Despite a court order issued in December 2022 that prohibited Emefiele’s arrest, the DSS took him into custody on June 10, along with the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Emefiele was arrested on allegations of funding terrorism and economic sabotage, among other charges.
