The Federal Government has requested to withdraw the case of “illegal possession of firearms” against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor.

The application was made following further investigations.

However, Emefiele’s counsel opposed the application, stating that the government must first comply with the court’s order granting Emefiele bail.

The case has been adjourned until August 17, 2023, for the judge to rule on the application.

Additionally, the Director of Public Prosecutions announced that a fresh set of charges, including one count of “conferring unlawful advantages,” have been filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
