Ecuadorian midfielder Marco Angulo, aged 22, has tragically passed away from injuries sustained in a car crash in Quito on October 7.
Angulo was involved in a collision at approximately 4:30 AM on the Autopista General Ruminahui.
The car, a Ford Explorer, collided with a metal structure, and Angulo was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery on his skull and lungs.
Despite medical efforts, Angulo succumbed to his injuries on November 12, 35 days after the crash.
LDU Quito confirmed the heartbreaking news, expressing their grief and offering condolences to Angulo’s family and loved ones.
The club described his death as an “irreparable loss” that would leave a lasting impact on the team and its supporters.
Angulo’s death follows that of two other footballers involved in the crash. Independiente Juniors defender Roberto Cabezas Simisterra and Victor Charcopa Nazareno of Cuniburo FC also lost their lives.
The tragic incident has deeply shaken Ecuadorian football, with tributes pouring in from fellow players, including LDU Quito captain Ezequiel Piovi, who shared his condolences on social media.
