Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has officially announced his decision to withdraw from consideration for a ministerial position in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
El-Rufai communicated this decision during a meeting with President Tinubu on August 8, 2023.
He cited his commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s development as a private citizen and his ongoing doctorate program in The Netherlands as reasons for his withdrawal.
El-Rufai also proposed Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, a former commissioner under his governorship, as a suitable replacement for the Kaduna State ministerial slot.
This decision came after El-Rufai faced obstacles in his confirmation, with the Senate withholding his confirmation based on security reports from the State Security Service.
During the meeting, President Tinubu requested time to review petitions and the SSS report before making a final decision. El-Rufai expressed concerns about potential hindrances from certain individuals around the president, leading to his firm withdrawal from the ministerial pursuit.
It is worth noting that El-Rufai’s confirmation hearing revealed his assignment to address Nigeria’s power challenges under President Tinubu’s directive.
