Former Chelsea and Scotland midfielder Craig Burley has urged Erling Haaland to boycott the Ballon d’Or ceremony if Lionel Messi wins the award again this year.

Messi, who has won the award a record seven times, is considered a favorite to claim the top prize despite his move to the MLS and a disappointing end to his time at Paris Saint-Germain.

Burley argues that Haaland, who had an outstanding season with Manchester City, scoring over 50 goals and winning multiple titles, deserves the award more.

He criticizes the sentimental voting and suggests that if Haaland misses out on the award, he should refuse to attend future ceremonies, similar to Robert Lewandowski.
