West Ham and Everton are both pushing hard to sign Club Brugge’s Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika, NaijNaira can report, as the summer transfer market heats up.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that West Ham are slightly ahead in the race and may have to shell out around €30 million to bring the 24-year-old to London.
Onyedika has been a key presence in Club Brugge’s midfield, forming a solid duo with Ardon Jashari. His ability to disrupt opposition play and quickly drive the ball forward makes him a valuable asset.
He’s not shy in the tackle, though his aggressive style means he often picks up yellow cards. Still, his tenacity and powerful shot have caught the eyes of scouts in England.
Since his 2022 switch from Denmark’s FC Midtjylland, Onyedika has racked up 141 games for Brugge, scoring six goals. That consistency across domestic and European competitions has boosted his reputation.
“Raphael is now seen as one of the most combative midfielders in Belgium,” a source close to the club said.
With both Onyedika and Jashari expected to leave, Brugge could face a midfield rebuild heading into the 2025/26 Pro League season.
West Ham are ready to bolster their squad with Premier League-ready grit, while Everton remain closely monitoring the deal.
The coming weeks could decide if Onyedika wears claret and blue or blue and white in the Premier League next season.
