A faction of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, led by Omoba Adesoyin Olumide, has disowned the Executive Committee (Exco) led by Pastor Dayo Ekong, stating that their tenure has expired.
Olumide, the chairman of the faction, explained that the Ekong-led Exco was no longer recognized by law after being sacked by the court.
He mentioned that the suspended National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, under Barr. Julius Abure, appointed the Ekong-led Exco, but Abure’s suspension was upheld by the Appeal Court and is now awaiting judgment in the Supreme Court.
Olumide and his team were given a letter by the Acting Chairman, Alhaji Apapa, to act as the executive committee of the Labour Party in Lagos State for a three-month period, which has since been renewed by the party’s national body.
Olumide warned the public to be cautious in their dealings with the Abure-led body, as courts in Benin and Abuja have warned that anyone dealing with them does so at their own risk.
He also denied claims that Apapa and his group were working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and assured that his Exco is the authentic one that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will deal with.
Olumide urged the government to reverse anti-people policies and address issues such as public transportation, harassment of motorists, and infrastructure decay in Lagos.
He also called for a reconsideration of tuition fee hikes and compensation for families who lost loved ones during the #EndSARS crisis.
