Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has spoken out against rumours circulating on social media that he will be appointed as the Chief of Staff to President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

In a recent interview on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics, Fashola refuted the claims and stated that he had previously served as Tinubu’s Chief of Staff for four and a half years during his tenure as the Governor of Lagos State.

When questioned about the rumours, Fashola expressed his disappointment in the practice of choosing government officials on social media and called on Nigerians to wait for the president-elect to make his official appointments.

“We should stop ridiculing this country,” Fashola said. “Let us respect the privilege and the prerogative he has to constitute his team. No serious nation does what rascals are doing on social media, saying this one is this, this one is that, picking ministers and so on.”

Fashola went on to confirm that he is unlikely to become Tinubu’s Chief of Staff again, saying, “I think it is extremely ridiculous. Look, we can’t even begin to contemplate what the President-elect will do, and we should wait when he makes his decision.”

Regarding Tinubu’s health, Fashola assured the public that the former governor is doing well. He said that he spoke with Tinubu a week ago, and he is currently in France.

“I believe that he is taking some time out and he needs it,” Fashola said. “He overworked himself, and I know he will be doing lots of networking, meeting people, planning ahead, building relationships that will be useful to his government internationally.”
