Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has voiced frustration at the club’s failure to bid for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, NaijNaira can report,
Ferdinand shared his views in a TalkSPORT interview, as reported by Soccernet.ng, stressing that Osimhen fits everything United need up front right now.
The 26-year-old forward has already agreed personal terms with Galatasaray, with only Napoli’s final approval standing in the way of the transfer.
“£50m for Osimhen is absolute peanuts in today’s market,” Ferdinand said, expressing disbelief that Manchester United are sitting on the sidelines.
He also described the Napoli striker as “experienced” and “a top-class goalscorer,” stating he’d take him over Viktor Gyökeres without hesitation.
Napoli rejected Galatasaray’s initial €60m offer, but the Turkish side are set to return with an improved bid and better payment terms.
Despite this, United spent £62.5m on Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are still pursuing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as they continue squad rebuilding.
Ferdinand urged fans to stay patient with manager Ruben Amorim, noting, “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and that deals take time to complete.
Galatasaray and Osimhen have a deal agreed through 2028, and talks with Napoli are expected to continue as both sides push for an agreement.
