The Federal Government has responded to the move by a coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to register a new political party ahead of the 2027 general elections, NaijNaira can report.

The Guardian revealed that the group, operating under the name Nigeria National Coalition Group, NNCG, has submitted a formal application to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, seeking to register the proposed party called the All Democratic Alliance, ADA.

The attempt comes after earlier efforts to work with the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, which did not produce the desired outcome.

The decision to proceed independently was made during a meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

INEC confirmed on Friday that it has officially received the party’s registration request.

Chief Akin Anderson Rickets, who previously served as Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, has been selected as the Protem National Chairman of the proposed party.

Abdullahi Musa Elayo, a former member of the House of Representatives from Nasarawa State, was named the protem national secretary.

In the application letter, Rickets stated, “We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, ADA, as a political party.”

Key political figures reportedly backing the new party include Peter Obi, Aminu Tambuwal, John Oyegun, Rauf Aregbesola, Abubakar Malami, Babachir Lawal, Uche Secondus, Osita Chidoka, and Nnenna Ukeje.

Reacting to the development, Minister Festus Keyamo dismissed the move, saying, “This is just a simple application for party registration. It is an unnecessary hype the promoters have been struggling to create all along.”

The coalition plans to position the All Democratic Alliance, ADA, as a fresh political option for Nigerians in the 2027 elections.
