Starting from July 2023, motorists in Lagos State will be required to pay an annual fee of N1,000 for Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC) verification.
This new initiative aims to streamline and enhance the process of vehicle ownership verification in compliance with legal requirements for transparency, security, and accountability within the transportation network.
The POC will serve as official documentation of a vehicle’s legal owners and will contain vital information such as the vehicle’s registration details, license number plate, model, year of manufacture, and owner’s name and address.
The decision to introduce the annual POC was made by the Joint Tax Board in accordance with the National Road Traffic Regulation 2012 as amended.
The POC will help track the real-time status and guarantee the integrity of all vehicles registered on the National Vehicle and Identification Scheme (NVIS) database, and will also bring solutions to minimize car theft and streamline the fulfillment of uniform licensing scheme mandates.
The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the commencement of the POC in Lagos State.
