Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike made a significant appearance at the National Caucus Meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.
The meeting, held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, brought together key figures within the party, including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and his Sokoto South counterpart Aminu Tambuwal.
Other prominent PDP stalwarts, such as Ahmed Makarfi, Babangida Aliyu, Jonah Jang, and Sule Lamido, were also in attendance.
The caucus gathering, which serves as a precursor to the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, holds significant sway in shaping the party’s direction.
Comprising PDP governors, National Assembly members, select Board of Trustees members, and National Working Committee representatives, the caucus plays a crucial role in decision-making.
Notably, the presence of Atiku and Wike at the same meeting marked their first joint appearance since the 2023 general elections.
Former Vice President Sambo occupied a seat between the two during the proceedings. The rift between Atiku and Wike emerged during the primaries, with Wike expressing discontent over Atiku’s choice of running mate.
Despite efforts to reconcile, Wike openly backed APC’s Bola Tinubu in the presidential race, leading to Atiku’s defeat. However, following the election, Tinubu extended an olive branch to Wike, eventually appointing him as the FCT Minister.
As the party strategizes and plans for the future, their joint appearance holds significant implications for the PDP’s unity and future political endeavors.
