A prominent northern political figure, Alhaji Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has waved off concerns voiced by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) over a recent remark by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. Ganduje had suggested that northern politicians should hold their horses until 2031 before reclaiming the presidency.
But according to Kwankwaso, the ACF wields about as much influence as a paper umbrella in a rainstorm when it comes to blocking President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Kwankwaso, who moonlights as the Director of Finance for the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin, didn’t hold back in his critique of the ACF. “Most of you sat in power for decades, but what did you actually do for the North? Nothing. Just feathered your nests,” he scoffed.
He took specific aim at some high-profile figures within the ACF, particularly Solomon Dalung, Najaatu Muhammad, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He accused them of enjoying power without leaving behind any tangible legacy. “Dalung, weren’t you oddly quiet once you found yourself in Buhari’s government, despite all your noise about misgovernance?” Kwankwaso quipped.
Switching to praise mode, he hailed President Tinubu’s administration, claiming it had already delivered more for the North than past leaders managed in years.
He pointed to massive projects, including the freshly minted Northwest Development Commission, a hefty N150 billion earmarked for the Kano Metro Rail project, and a whopping N600 billion funneled into northern development initiatives.
“The North is basically one giant construction site, thanks to Tinubu,” Kwankwaso beamed. “And mark my words, there’s more where that came from in 2027.”
He also tipped his hat to APC Chairman Ganduje for fortifying the party by luring heavyweight politicians from rival camps.
According to Kwankwaso, the APC’s growing dominance has rattled the once-mighty Kwankwasiyya movement, which he claims is now slipping into political irrelevance.
With confidence oozing from every word, he assured that Tinubu’s performance would be more than enough to secure another term, no matter what tricks the opposition pulls. “The defections to APC are sending shockwaves through the North, and the Kwankwasiyya camp knows it,” he concluded.
