Kano state Governor Abdullahi Ganduje was absent from the inauguration of Abba Kabir Yusuf, the newly elected governor, due to the N241.5b debt liability he left behind.

The handover notes were presented by the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, who gave a brief breakdown of the report containing the activities of the state government from 2015-2023.

Governor Ganduje explained how the N241.7b debt liability was accumulated and listed the state’s current debt profile.

The newly elected governor expressed his disappointment at the debt left behind and criticized the use of consultants as draining conduits of the state’s resources.

He refused to agree to the handing over by the former Governor, Ganduje on May 28th, citing illegality according to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
