Ademola Lookman was back on the scoresheet as Atalanta cruised to a 4-0 away win against Monza in Serie A on May 4, but manager Gian Piero Gasperini had mixed feelings about the forward’s overall contribution.
According to Soccernet.ng, Lookman ended an eight-match goal drought by scoring just two minutes into the second half, registering his 14th league goal of the season. However, Gasperini admitted he wasn’t satisfied with the Nigerian’s first-half showing, emphasizing that the winger needed to bring more to the team from the outset.
“Lookman did well in the second half; I wasn’t too happy with him in the first,” Gasperini told Football Italia following the match.
Charles De Ketelaere was the standout performer in the opening 45 minutes, bagging a brace that put Atalanta in control early on. The Belgian forward was later seen celebrating with his man-of-the-match award alongside Lookman after the final whistle at U-Power Stadium.
Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi also played a key role, making crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet. Gasperini praised his team’s concentration but warned against complacency with three matches remaining in the season.
With the win, Atalanta remain third in the Serie A table, sitting five points ahead of Juventus as they push for direct qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League.
