Guehi’s Father Slams FA for Contacting Son Over Religious Message on Armband

Marc Guehi’s father has criticized the Football Association (FA) after his son was reprimanded for writing “I love Jesus” on his rainbow-coloured captain’s armband during Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

The armbands were issued as part of the Premier League’s support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights.

Guehi, a devout Christian, was not charged but was reminded by the FA that religious messages on equipment are banned under Rule A4, which prohibits any religious or political messaging.

Despite the warning, Guehi continued to write religious messages, including “Jesus ❤️ You” on his armband.

Ipswich captain Sam Morsy chose not to wear the armband due to his beliefs as a muslim, but he faced no punishment, which led Guehi’s father to accuse the FA of double standards.

John Guehi questioned why his son was singled out, pointing out that Morsy faced no punishment for refusing to wear the armband.

He believes Marc’s message was not offensive, as it simply expressed love for Jesus and did not target or criticize others.

John also pointed out that his son wore the armband, showing respect for the LGBTQ+ community.

He believes Guehi should not be punished for expressing his Christian beliefs.
