According to a report from the Daily Mail newspaper, Qatar Investment Authority is planning to make a huge takeover bid for Premier League club Manchester United.

The investors are said to be “high-wealth individuals” from Qatar, which will host the 2022 World Cup.

Jim Ratcliffe’s company INEOS also entered bidding last month after it was announced that Manchester United’s U.S. owners, the Glazer family, are looking at possible new investment options or even a potential sale.

Bloomberg News reported that Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), the owner of Paris Saint Germain, might make a total takeover or just buy a stake in either Manchester United or their rivals Liverpool.

There have been calls by fans for a change of ownership, especially as there has been no silverware win since 2017 when they lifted trophies in both the Europa League and League Cup competitions.

As of September 2020, United’s net debt had grown to 515 million pounds ($620.42 million).

Currently managed by Erik ten Hag, the team sits third in the league points table on 42 points after 21 games and trails Manchester City only by 3 points with eight adrift from Arsenal in first place who have played one game less so far this season.
