New details have surfaced on why Abdullahi Ganduje abruptly resigned as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, NaijNaira can report.
The scoop, first shared by Politics Nigeria, points to a behind-closed-doors agreement between President Bola Tinubu and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso that paved the way for Ganduje’s exit.
Ganduje’s resignation became official on Friday, with APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, stepping in as acting leader.
In his letter addressed to the party’s National Working Committee, Ganduje thanked Tinubu for the opportunity to serve.
Tensions had reportedly reached a boiling point by 3 p.m. Friday after word spread of a political deal involving Tinubu and Kwankwaso.
“He is upset that Kwankwaso is coming to the APC,” said a party source. “We are currently pleading with him not to resign.”
Despite efforts by officials, including National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje left the position around 4:15 p.m.
“There is something personal between him and Kwankwaso,” another insider revealed.
Their feud dates back to Kano’s political battlefield, where both men once worked closely before turning into rivals.
One major fallout was the removal of Emir Sanusi in 2020, seen as a Kwankwaso ally.
That rift deepened after Sanusi’s reinstatement in 2024 under Governor Abba Yusuf, Kwankwaso’s protégé.
Though Ganduje cited health reasons, many view his exit as tied to Tinubu’s push to realign APC ahead of 2027.
“I know there was a meeting where they agreed Ganduje and Shettima should be sacrificed,” said Buba Galadima, a Kwankwaso associate.
As 2027 approaches, APC strategists appear to be reshuffling their pieces, while opposition figures like Atiku and Obi plan their next moves.
