Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has cleared the air on why he turned down interest from European heavyweights like Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Lyon in favor of staying at Slavia Prague, NaijNaira can report.
The 25-year-old, who has been a standout performer for Slavia Prague in the Czech Liga, confirmed in an interview with Footy Africa that he renewed his contract to stay until 2027, prioritizing stability and Champions League football.
“For me, extending my contract is a good decision and I believe it’s the best one because I understand the system and the philosophy here,” Ogbu said.
Ogbu has been a reliable presence in Slavia’s defense over the past three seasons, helping the club to domestic silverware while earning a Super Eagles call-up.
“I will also be able to play in the Champions League, which is something I’ve always wanted. That’s why I decided to stay for a while before making the next step,” he added.
Despite strong interest from top Turkish and French clubs, Ogbu sees staying at Slavia as the smarter path right now.
He’s focused on refining his game, gaining European experience, and positioning himself for a bigger move down the line.
If his next season in Prague goes well, Ogbu could become one of the most sought-after defenders in the transfer market.
Currently valued at €11 million, the Nigerian center-back is betting on himself for an even bigger breakthrough.
