The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently announced that the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, is currently missing.

According to the spokesperson of the electoral commission, Festus Okoye, the Commission had summoned the suspended REC to appear at its headquarters, but he failed to show up.

Efforts to reach him via phone calls have also proved abortive.

Okoye disclosed that INEC had written to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Akali Baba, requesting an investigation into the suspended REC’s conduct for possible prosecution.

The Commission had also written to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, to inform President Muhammadu Buhari of the situation and potentially review the suspended REC’s appointment.

President Buhari went on to approve the immediate suspension of Hudu Yunusa-Ari for his alleged involvement in the controversies surrounding the Adamawa State supplementary governorship election.

The President directed the Inspector-General of Police to initiate an investigation and possible prosecution of the suspended REC if found liable.

The President also directed the investigation of all security operatives involved in the controversies surrounding the supplementary election, and disciplinary actions be taken against them if found guilty.
