Lagos has a new sheriff in town—well, technically, a new Commissioner of Police. CP Moshood Oluhundare Jimoh has officially assumed command of the Lagos State Police, succeeding Olarewaju Ishola, who, for now, finds himself in professional limbo.
Sources whisper that Ishola’s tenure wasn’t exactly a bed of roses, as criticism rained down from multiple quarters, including ex-colleagues, reporters, and the ever-watchful public.
But as one door closes (or slams shut), another opens wide for Jimoh, a seasoned officer with a résumé that reads like an action-thriller script.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) confirmed Jimoh’s appointment in a statement released by its spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, noting that the decision was finalized on Monday, February 17, 2025.
From Port Authority to the Lagos Beat: Meet Jimoh
Before donning the Lagos CP badge, Jimoh served as the Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Authority. A native of Kwara State, he has worn many hats within the force, including roles as Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Finance and Administration at the Airport Police), and General Investigator.
His credentials are nothing short of impressive, with training stints at the Mobile Training College in Maiduguri, participation in the African Union Mission in Darfur, Sudan, and specialized security courses in the United States, China, and South Korea. If his resume had a theme, it would be “prepared for anything.”
Jimoh’s skillset is equally formidable, spanning combat tactics, maritime rescue operations, and anti-hijacking strategies. Clearly, this isn’t a man you want to challenge to a game of strategic thinking.
Adding a feather to his cap, Jimoh is also a recipient of the Presidential Award for Public Relations Personality of the Year, recognized for his contributions to enhancing public relations within Nigeria’s security apparatus.
