Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle has accused Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), of demanding a $2 million bribe from him.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, Matawalle claimed to have evidence against Bawa and stated that he could not be trusted.
Earlier, Matawalle had called for Bawa’s resignation, citing allegations of corruption.
Bawa responded by denying any wrongdoing and challenging Matawalle to provide evidence to appropriate authorities.
Matawalle insisted that he had evidence of Bawa’s request for a bribe and claimed that if Bawa were to resign, many others would come forward with similar allegations.
