Joao Felix Substitution Explained After Half-Time Magic vs Leicester

Following Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City on March 11th, manager Graham Potter has revealed why he chose to substitute Joao Felix at half time.

Despite Ricardo Perreira managing to avoid a red card for violently attacking Felix in the first half, the Portuguese forward was substituted in favor of Conor Gallagher at half time.

When asked his motivation for this decision Potter revealed that it was tactical: He wanted an extra midfielder who could win the ball back and felt that Gallagher could do so adequately.

The substitution clearly paid off as Kane Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic all scored late goals to secure the win for Chelsea.
