Johnny Depp has finally opened up about the people who betrayed him during his legal battle with Amber Heard, NaijNaira can report.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, Depp revealed how former friends and industry insiders turned their backs on him after domestic abuse accusations.
“That’s death by confetti,” Depp said, calling out those who “lie to you, celebrate you, and talk horror behind your back, but keep the money flowing.”
The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star said his loyalty has always been firm, but some people he trusted chose to abandon him when things got tough.
“There are people who did me dirty,” he said, “they were at my kids’ parties, throwing them in the air.”
Depp described feeling like a “crash test dummy” for the early days of the #MeToo movement, long before the Harvey Weinstein scandal exploded.
He admitted that some friends stayed silent out of fear, saying, “I understand why people couldn’t stand up for me. Making the right choice scared them.”
Speaking about the Virginia trial, Depp shared, “I knew I’d have to semi-eviscerate myself. Everyone said, ‘It’ll go away!’ But I can’t trust that. What will go away? Lies pushed around the world? No, they won’t.”
He explained that telling his truth was not just about him, but about protecting his kids and the young fans he had met over the years.
“I wasn’t nervous the night before the trial,” he said. “If you’re speaking the truth, you don’t need to memorise lines. Just roll the dice.”
Depp made it clear he has no regrets, stating, “None of this was going to be easy, but I didn’t care. I thought, ‘I’ll fight till the bitter f***ing end.’ And if I end up pumping gas? That’s fine. I’ve done that before.”
He finished with a powerful message: “What can we do about last week’s dinner? Not a f***ing thing.”
