Jude Okoye, former manager of the popular music duo P-Square, has been released from custody after spending over two months in detention. His legal battles stemmed from charges of money laundering, theft, and criminal conversion, allegedly involving over ₦1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.
According to Premium Times, his release came after a series of legal challenges with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which had accused him of misappropriating funds. After his release on April 23, 2025, Jude was reunited with his family in a small celebration, marking both his return home and his birthday.
Paul Okoye, Jude’s brother and former bandmate, confirmed the news of his release via Instagram. He wrote, “Jude is finally out after 2 months +… All their efforts to frustrate his bail have finally collapsed.”
The tensions between Jude and his brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye, have been brewing for years. In a public statement, Peter accused Jude of manipulating the financial systems of their music label, Northside Music Ltd, and withholding royalties that were rightfully theirs.
Peter’s accusations included claims that Jude registered the label under his wife’s name and refused to share transparency regarding the distribution of royalties. Peter further testified that Jude allegedly redirected music royalties into accounts solely controlled by him, leaving the other members financially excluded.
This legal saga traces back to 2017 when the once-successful trio publicly split. Despite a brief reunion in 2021, internal disputes—both personal and financial—reignited the rift in August 2024.
With Jude’s release, the legal challenges are far from over. He still faces upcoming court appearances, with the next session scheduled for May 23, 2025, regarding the money laundering case.
As the drama continues, Peter Okoye is expected to return to court in June for cross-examination in the ongoing theft case. Jude’s freedom may mark the end of his time in custody, but the court trials are set to unfold further in the coming months.
