Jurgen Klopp admits it’s looking almost certain that Liverpool will be eliminated from the Champions League after their 5-2 loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of the last-16.

Despite Carlo Ancelotti’s suggestion that the tie isn’t yet over, Klopp believes otherwise.

He stated, “I think Carlo thinks the tie is over – and I think it as well in the moment, but in three weeks… it’s how it is in these moments, the closer you get to the game the bigger our chances become and the less likely it is the tie is over.”

Klopp was upbeat about Liverpool’s performance in spite of their loss.

He praised how well they performed during much of the first half but saw Miliatao’s goal two minutes into the second half changing things for them.

Klopp said: “We lost momentum with Miliatao’s intervention inside two minutes of the second period.”

He went on to talk about some of Real Madrid’s goals being very preventable had they defended better.

Nonetheless, Klopp concluded by emphasizing his team’s determination to win at Santiago Bernabeu on 15 March.
