At least 11 people have lost their lives in a bomb explosion in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, NaijNaira can report.
The incident happened on Friday night in front of a local cinema, close to the Konduga fish market, according to Premium Times.
Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force confirmed that several people were injured and rushed to the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital for urgent treatment.
Security teams have now been deployed to the scene to secure the area and protect residents.
Konduga is about 36 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
This marks the first bomb-related incident reported in Konduga in almost a year.
So far, no group has come forward to claim responsibility for the blast, though Boko Haram fighters are suspected due to their recent violent operations in Borno communities.
A Civilian Joint Task Force member described the event, saying, “It was a devastating scene, many people were caught unaware.”
The explosion happened just a few hours after Nigerian soldiers pushed back insurgent attacks in Gwoza and Kukawa local government areas.
The military recently confirmed they eliminated hundreds of insurgents, including some of their senior leaders.
Boko Haram has repeatedly attacked communities across Borno State, spreading fear and forcing people to flee their homes.
Security agencies are investigating the attack while closely watching the situation in the region.
Experts have called on the public to stay alert and immediately report any suspicious movement.
