Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s health has reportedly worsened, causing concerns about his ability to continue leading Ondo State.
Sources within the government have confirmed that the governor’s health is deteriorating and he requires “serious prayers.”
There are reports that he is scheduled to be flown out of Nigeria for treatment.
Akeredolu was sworn in for a second term in February 2021 and has been a vocal opponent of non-state actors’ atrocities, including herders’ rampages and insurgency and banditry in northern states.
In January, his wife, Betty, attacked one of her husband’s female aides, accusing her of interfering in the governor’s health management and plotting to become the state deputy governor.
The recent concerns over Akeredolu’s health have raised questions about his ability to govern, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state has called on him to make his medical records public to ease tensions.
