Harry Kane made a memorable return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Bayern Munich defeated his former club 3-2 to win the Visit Malta Cup.
Despite coming off the bench to a standing ovation from Spurs fans and helping Bayern secure the victory, the 31-year-old striker appeared to refuse to lift the trophy, an act seemingly out of respect for the club where he spent 14 years.
At the end of the match, camera footage captured Kane continuously nodding his head and whispering to German international Joshua Kimmich as he handed over the captain’s armband.
Kane was also seen mouthing ‘no’ multiple times when offered the trophy.
Before the match, fellow club legend Ledley King and former teammate Eric Dier, who also joined Bayern Munich, presented the England International with a special commemorative gift.
Reflecting on his return, Kane shared, “It was strange being in the away dressing room, but I enjoyed the occasion. I had an amazing career at Spurs, and it was great to see the fans and familiar faces again. The reception was incredible, and I’m thankful for the support I’ve received throughout my career.”
The game itself was a tightly contested affair.
Dejan Kulusevski gave Tottenham an early lead, but Bayern Munich came from behind, ultimately winning 3-2.
Goals from Serge Gnabry and Thomas Müller sealed the victory for Bayern.
Despite Kulusevski scoring a second for Tottenham in the 61st minute, it only served as a consolation as Bayern held on to their lead.
