Kolade Alabi, Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, collapsed on Wednesday while addressing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja.
According to PUNCH Online, Alabi, who also serves as the Lagos State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), was speaking at the event when he suddenly slumped. He was revived shortly after and transported to a nearby hospital in an ambulance for medical attention.
The incident comes just weeks after a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled in Alabi’s favor, affirming his leadership of ALGON following a dispute over his eligibility. The plaintiffs had challenged his position on the grounds that he was a chairman of a Local Council Development Area, but the court dismissed the suit, stating it was an internal matter.
Alabi has been known for his involvement in grassroots governance, with projects focused on local development and budgeting. In his 2024 proposal, he presented a ₦6.4 billion budget aimed at community infrastructure and youth support initiatives.
Speaking about the unity of the association amid leadership disputes, current ALGON President Aminu Maifata said, “Now that the court has decided, we expect every member of the association to support the leadership so we can move forward.”
As of the time of reporting, no official update has been released regarding Alabi’s current health condition.
