Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), says President Bola Tinubu is favoring Southern Nigeria with infrastructure projects while leaving the North behind — www.naijnaira.com reports.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ dialogue in Kano about the 2025 constitutional amendment, Kwankwaso said the terrible state of federal roads in the North paints a grim picture.

He cited his recent road journey from Abuja to Kano, calling it a nightmare. According to him, “From Abuja to Kaduna to Kano was a hell — terrible, very bad road.”

He criticized the disparity, noting that the Southern region is now getting new road projects while the North remains stuck with unfinished and neglected highways.

Kwankwaso said infrastructure should be spread across all regions and not concentrated in one part of the country.

He added, “We support roads everywhere… But a situation where government is taking our resources and dumping it in one part of the country… is wrong.”

He urged President Tinubu to correct what he sees as a one-sided development approach and restore balance in federal allocations.

Speaking to lawmakers, Kwankwaso reminded them of past legislative failures and urged them not to repeat old mistakes.

He recalled how wealthy individuals allegedly bribed lawmakers to skew the nation’s resource distribution in favor of a few.

He said mismanagement of public funds across federal, state, and local levels has hurt the North the most.

“We are very much aware that the rich once more is working so hard to take from the poor,” he warned.

Kwankwaso called for unity among Kano lawmakers to protect regional interests in the ongoing constitutional review.

He insisted representatives, whether from NNPP or other parties, must resist pressure and stand up for the public good.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf echoed Kwankwaso’s concerns, saying the dialogue aims to reflect the people’s values and concerns in the national constitution.

He described the meeting as a vital moment to unify the state’s voice in national decisions that affect its future.

The dialogue was attended by members of both national and state assemblies, traditional rulers, senior officials, and civic leaders.
