The Labour Party in Nigeria is currently facing turmoil as state chairpersons stormed the national secretariat in Abuja.
The crisis began when Julius Abure was sacked as party chairman by court order, and his deputy, Lamidi Apapa, announced himself as the acting chairman.
The faction with the aid of some policemen took over the secretariat, but chairmen of the party across the 36 states affirmed that Abure remained the chairman of the party.
They stormed Abuja to take over the party’s secretariat, which they alleged was taken over by thugs.
They insisted that Abure remains the recognized National Chairman of LP and that the action of the faction is a total nullity and should be disregarded.
The crisis is blamed on those who do not want LP to challenge the presidential election in court, and the chairpersons are calling for party members to be guided by the rules and laws of the Constitutional provisions and the laws of the land and the party.
They affirm that Abure remains the authentic Chairman of the Labour Party in Nigeria and there is nobody except the National Executive Committee that could remove him.
