In a recent development, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has reportedly been arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in Edo State.

The arrest came following a petition filed by the party’s Youth Leader, Comrade Eragbe Anselm Aphimia, alleging an attack by some party members in December 2023.

According to the petition addressed to the Edo State Commissioner of Police and dated February 13, Comrade Eragbe Anselm recounted the events leading to the attack.

He mentioned that on December 28, 2023, he arrived at the Benin City Airport as part of an official delegation authorized by the Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party.

However, he and his colleague were deceived and violently attacked just outside the hotel they were lodged in.

When contacted, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer stated that he had not been briefed about the arrest.

Similarly, the Chief Spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 election responded that he would provide further information.
