Argentina clinched their record 16th Copa America title on Sunday, defeating Colombia 1-0 in extra time with a goal from Lautaro Martinez in the 112th minute.

The victory marked Argentina’s third consecutive major title, following their 2021 Copa America win and the 2022 World Cup triumph.

The final was marred by delays and security issues at Hard Rock Stadium, with the match starting over an hour late due to crowd control problems outside the venue.

Despite the disruptions, Martinez’s decisive goal, assisted by Giovani Lo Celso in the 112th minute, ended Colombia’s impressive 28-game unbeaten streak dating back to February 2022.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi appeared to suffer a non-contact injury as he fell in the 64th minute and was deemed unable to continue, forcing him to sit out the rest of the match.

The 37-year-old Messi scored just one goal in the tournament. Last night marked his 39th and possibly final appearance in the competition.
