Akwa Ibom State was formed from Cross River State in 1987. The first governor of Akwa Ibom state is Tunde Ogbeha and Akpan Isemin as military and elected respectively. Air Commodore Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga is the first indigenous governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Umo Bassey Eno – Executive Governor
The current Governor of Akwa Ibom State is also a clergy. Eno was the former Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources in the State, and the founder of All Nations Christian Ministry International. He attended Local Authority primary school in Lagos State, where he got his first school leaving certificate. He also attended St. Francis secondary school in Eket, and Victory High School in Ikeja, Lagos for his secondary education. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Uyo and later a Master’s degree.
