Arne Slot’s impressive start as Liverpool manager continued with a commanding 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Luis Diaz scored two goals, while Mohamed Salah added a third early in the second half, securing Liverpool’s third consecutive win under Slot.

It was the second defeat of the season for United with manager Erik ten Hag visibly frustrated on the sidelines.

The issues that plagued United last season and at the start of this one were ruthlessly exposed as Liverpool consistently cut through United’s midfield.

Casemiro was at fault for two of the goals and was substituted at half-time, but little changed as Liverpool proved superior in every department.

This victory made Slot the first Liverpool manager to defeat United in his first competitive meeting since Bob Paisley in 1975.

An early warning came when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal was initially awarded but later disallowed by VAR for offside.

However, Liverpool capitalized in the 35th minute when Casemiro’s misplaced pass allowed Ryan Gravenberch to set up Salah, who assisted Diaz for the opening goal.

United had a brief chance to respond, but Liverpool doubled their lead just before halftime.

Casemiro was again at fault, losing possession to Diaz, who combined with Salah before scoring his second goal.

Despite halftime changes, including the introduction of young midfielder Toby Collyer, United couldn’t stem the tide.

In the 56th minute, Alexis Mac Allister’s tackle on Kobbie Mainoo initiated a counter-attack, leading to Salah’s goal and Liverpool’s third.

United tried to muster a response, with Joshua Zirkzee and Lisandro Martinez both missing opportunities.

However, Liverpool remained in control, almost adding a fourth through Salah and Cody Gakpo.

The match ended with Liverpool comfortably ahead, leaving United to reflect on a poor performance and Slot celebrating a historic win.
