After two decades, Madonna has finally released the original, controversial music video for her 2003 single “American Life.”

The video was banned due to its gruesome content, which was intended to comment on the American invasion of Iraq.

The video starts with models walking down a runway in army costumes, but soon victims of war join them and are beaten as blood spews onto the runway.

Despite the violence, the audience of fashion-goers laughs, and pictures of real war victims flash across the screen.

Madonna ultimately bursts onto the stage in a tank and kills the crowd with a grenade.

The singer released a censored version in 2003 after facing backlash, but the recent upload still leaves out some controversial moments, such as a George W. Bush lookalike catching a grenade and lighting his cigarette with it.

Madonna is set to begin her “Celebration” world tour in Vancouver on July 15.
