Governor Seyi Makinde has officially confirmed that Oba Rasidi Ladoja will ascend the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on September 26, 2025 – www.naijnaira.com reports.

The announcement was made when the governor paid a visit to the Olubadan-designate at his Bodija home in Ibadan, where the historic coronation date was agreed.

Vanguard reports that the ceremony will take place at the symbolic Mapo Hall, a venue long associated with the rich traditions of Ibadan kingship.

Oba Ladoja returned to the city earlier in the week after being selected by the Olubadan-in-Council following the passing of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin on July 7.

During his return, the monarch-in-waiting noted the coincidence of being born in 1944 and now becoming the 44th Olubadan.

Governor Makinde also named Bayo Oyero, former chairman of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, as the head of the coronation committee.

Details of other committee members are expected to be released in the coming days as preparations intensify for the event.

The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, joined dignitaries in congratulating Ladoja on his elevation to the ancient throne.

Ogundoyin described the process as “a seamless transition that underscores the strength of Ibadan’s traditional succession system.”

He also praised Governor Makinde for promptly endorsing the nomination and for preserving the respected customs of the Ibadan chieftaincy line.

In his goodwill message, the speaker said, “May your reign bring enduring unity, prosperity, and renewed glory to Ibadanland and Oyo State.”

The Ibadan traditional institution has long been regarded as one of the most orderly succession structures in Nigeria, with its unique ladder of ascension minimizing disputes.

Residents of Ibadan have been urged to support the new monarch and participate fully in the coronation activities to honor their heritage.
