Manchester City will learn their opponents on Thursday for next summer’s revamped FIFA Club World Cup, a tournament set to be the most lucrative in its history.

City will compete in the new 32-team format, which will be staged every four years, similar to the FIFA World Cup for national teams.

The group stage draw will take place at 6pm GMT, with Man City placed in pot one.

Other European clubs in the tournament include Chelsea, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, FC Porto, Atletico Madrid, SL Benfica, Juventus, and FC Salzburg.

Notable teams from around the world, such as Flamengo, Palmeiras, River Plate, Fluminense, Al Hilal, and Inter Miami, will also participate.

Despite criticism over the added matches to the football calendar, the tournament promises to be highly lucrative.

FIFA has secured a $1bn broadcasting deal with DAZN, who will offer global free-to-view coverage.

Every club, including Man City, will receive approximately $50m (£39.3m) for participation, with the winner set to earn a record $100m (£78.6m).

Additional bonuses for clubs reaching certain stages could push the total prize pool to $2.65bn (£2.08bn), a sharp increase from the $16m (£12.5m) prize pool of the previous format, which saw Man City win $6.3m (£5m) in 2023.
