FIFA has finally secured a media rights deal for the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, reaching an agreement with sports streaming platform DAZN after months of difficulties.
As part of the deal, DAZN will stream all 63 games of the inaugural Club World Cup for free on its platform.
Additionally, DAZN has the right to sublicense broadcasts to free, over-the-air TV channels.
The deal is valued at approximately $1 billion, significantly less than FIFA’s initial asking price of $4 billion, which led to talks breaking down with Apple.
After months of unsuccessful negotiations, FIFA held an emergency meeting with global TV executives to secure a partner.
DAZN’s CEO, Shay Segev, described the agreement as a major milestone in the company’s expansion into global football.
The deal will also include FIFA+ content, such as iconic football moments and full-match replays.
The partnership will kick off with the live broadcast of the Club World Cup draw from Miami on December 5, 2024.
The tournament will begin on June 15, 2025.
