Wayne Rooney has left his role as manager of Plymouth Argyle, with the club rooted at the bottom of the Championship table.
The decision comes after a poor run of results, and the two parties have mutually agreed to part ways just seven months into his three-year contract.
Under Rooney, Plymouth secured only four wins and 18 points, with relegation now a serious concern.
The team has not won a match since November 5, a 1-0 victory over Portsmouth, and has conceded 26 goals in their last nine games, earning just three points during that stretch.
Rooney’s tenure at Home Park started with a 4-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday, though the Pilgrims had some notable results, including a 3-2 win over Sunderland.
However, overall, the team’s performance remained disappointing.
A club statement confirmed that Rooney, along with assistant coach Mike Phelan and first-team coach Simon Ireland, had left the club.
First-team coach Kevin Nancekivell and club captain Joe Edwards will take charge for the upcoming match against Bristol City on New Year’s Day.
This marks Rooney’s fourth managerial role, following stints at Derby County, DC United, and Birmingham City.
